MY LIFE IN MUSIC

STEPHEN RIMMER IS THE

KENT ACCORDIONIST

YOU’VE HEARD THE REST

NOW BOOK THE BEST

I began my career as a professional Accordionist way back in 1985 in Lancaster, playing pop covers and traditional folk music, in bars and restaurants around Lancashire.

In the early 1990s I joined the Preston based folk rock band Banjaxed as Accordionist and Tin Whistle player, specialising in traditional and modern Irish Folk Music with a harder rocky edge, think Pogues, Dubliners that sort of thing.

This lasted about 4 years until our sad demise, whereupon I moved to Yorkshire and resumed my solo career eking out a living busking and playing pubs, clubs and wherever there was a call for an accordionist.

In 1996 I relocated to Normandy in France, again playing bars, restaurants etc and at the same time studying the French Musette style of music, along with traditional Italian music.

In 1998 I moved to the Costa Blanca in Spain, playing as a double act with my Mothers husband on guitar and vocals with a repetoire of Country, Rock n’ Roll and Folk music, whilst at the same time learning a range of Spanish tunes.

At this time I was also playing tin whistle in a five piece Skiffle band called Jerry and the Atrics.

From 2004 to 2006 I was back in Lancashire working as a sound engineer for a rock band called Space Holiday, while still plying my trade round bars, restaurants etc.

Then after another spell working in Spain I returned to the U.K. Playing a character called Squatter Steve on a radio show called the Wrong Show, with Tim Shaw of Balls of Steel and Car Sos fame.

Since then I have been residing in Ashford Kent, working both as a solo accordionist and one half of a Pipes and Accordion Duo, playing traditional Scottish and Irish music
